INTRODUCTION
Asthma is one of the earliest-recorded diseases af- fecting the human being. The recurrent paroxysms of asphyxia of a characteristic type were described as early as over three millennia ago. The disease is likely to oc- cur in any populated area of the world regardless of age. A distinct growth in the incidence of asthma has been reported in most industrialized countries in the past 10 to 15 years.
